Areas of Need
A common question we have about donations is how much of the money actually goes to the mission in Haiti as opposed to overhead. Friends of Canaan has zero overhead. All monies donated go to Haiti for the purposes you designate in your donation. When items are shipped from the US to Haiti, all postage is paid out of pocket - which means no part of any donation goes toward this either. Click here to read more FAQs.
Soup Kitchen

$9 feeds a child for an entire month. We work closely with vendors in Haiti to make sure we’re getting the best prices. In addition to covering the cost of the ingredients themselves, the sponsorship also covers a small salary, $60 per month, for cooks from the community who prepare food for the children.
Bible School

$35 a month will sponsor training for one person to be a pastor to proclaim the salvation of Jesus. This goes to books, supplies and a small stipend for those conducting the training.

Prayer

Prayer is our most important need. Elijah's prayers both held and produced rain. God listens to His children and longs to hear our prayers. Please pray for our leaders, for the children, for our ministry and fun us to walk in His light and His path.
Psalm 5:3 “In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”
1 John 5:14 “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
Shoes

The children walk to school, and the roads are very rocky, uneven, and dusty. Many of the children are in desperate need of shoes. Instead of purchasing shoes in the U.S. and shipping them to the school, we’d rather purchase them from shops in Haiti. Based on an estimate from JL Fine Shoes S.A., a shoe manufacturer in Petion-Ville, it will likely cost between $20 and $35 per pair.
School Supplies

Students are in need of pens, pencils, erasers, notebooks, rulers, etc. Due to the lack of desks, the children often sit on wooden planks placed over cinderblocks. For that reason, the most pressing need right now is for benches.
Haiti HQ

Our Haiti Headquarters building will be a refuge for missionaries as well as a place for those on the ground in Haiti for other various things, such as Vocational Bible School for children. We need 55 people to each give a one-time donation of $100 as the rent for our building is $5,500 for the entire year. If you are unable to give that much, any amount is greatly appreciated!
